Grades & Options

Our clay bars are available in four grades, allowing you to select the level of cleaning and decontamination required for the surface.

Super Fine – Orange
Ideal for very light contamination and delicate finishing work where a gentle clay is preferred.

Fine – Pink
A versatile grade for removing light to moderate bonded contaminants while providing a smooth finish.

Medium – Yellow
Suitable for moderate levels of contamination where a stronger level of cleaning is required.

Heavy – Purple
Designed for heavier and more stubborn bonded contamination where a more aggressive clay grade is required.

Each combination tin contains 100g total – 2 × 50g bars:

The combination tins are ideal for having two different grades available in one convenient protective tin.

How to Use

Before using the clay bar, ensure the surface is thoroughly washed and free from loose dirt and debris.

1. Wash the surface thoroughly and rinse clean.
2. Use plenty of clay lubricant on the area you are treating. Never use the clay bar on a dry surface.
3. Take a small piece of clay and flatten it into a suitable working shape.
4. Gently glide the clay over the lubricated surface using light pressure. Allow the clay to pick up bonded contaminants rather than applying excessive pressure.
5. Check the surface regularly. You should feel the clay becoming smoother as contamination is removed.
6. Wipe the area clean with a clean, soft microfibre towel.
7. Fold and knead the clay regularly to expose a clean section before continuing.

For best results, work on small sections at a time and keep the surface well lubricated throughout the process.

Important: Do not use the clay bar on a dry surface. If the clay is dropped onto the floor or another contaminated surface, discard the affected piece to avoid transferring abrasive particles onto the paintwork.

Storage

After use, return the clay to its protective tin and keep it clean, sealed and away from excessive heat or direct sunlight.

What is a clay bar?
A clay bar is a detailing product used to remove bonded surface contaminants that washing alone cannot remove. It leaves the paintwork feeling smooth and clean and prepares the surface for polishing, sealants or waxes.

What is the difference between Super Fine, Fine, Medium and Heavy clay?
The grades indicate the level of cleaning/aggressiveness:

• Super Fine – for very light contamination and delicate maintenance work.
• Fine – ideal for regular decontamination and lightly contaminated paint.
• Medium – for more noticeable bonded contamination where a finer clay isn't sufficient.
• Heavy – for stubborn or heavily contaminated surfaces and more intensive correction preparation.
• A useful rule is: always start with the least aggressive grade that will do the job.

Which clay bar should I choose?
For a well-maintained vehicle with light contamination, choose Super Fine or Fine.
For more noticeable contamination, choose Medium.
For heavily contaminated paint, Heavy may be appropriate.

Can I use the clay bar on all paintwork?
Clay should generally be suitable for properly cured automotive paint, clear coat, glass and other compatible smooth surfaces, but always check the product's intended applications and test an inconspicuous area first.

Will clay remove scratches or swirl marks?
No. Clay removes bonded surface contamination; it does not correct scratches or swirl marks. If the paint needs correction, claying can be used beforehand to provide a clean surface for polishing.

Do I need a clay lubricant?
Yes. Always use an appropriate clay lubricant or detailing spray to provide sufficient lubrication between the clay and the surface. Never clay a dry panel.

How do I use the clay bar?
Wash and rinse the vehicle first. Work on a small, cool section at a time, lubricate the surface generously, and gently glide the clay over the paint. Once the contamination has been removed, wipe the area with a clean microfibre towel.

How much pressure should I use?
Very little. Allow the clay to do the work. Excessive pressure can increase the risk of marring, particularly when using more aggressive grades.

How do I know when the clay has removed the contamination?
The clay should glide more smoothly over the surface. You can also gently feel the paint through a clean plastic bag to identify remaining roughness.

Can I use the same clay grade on every vehicle?
Not necessarily. Different vehicles can have very different levels of contamination. Start with the finest suitable grade and increase the aggressiveness only if necessary.

• How much clay is in the bar?
  Each standard bar contains 100g of clay.
• Can I split a 100g clay bar?
  Yes. A 100g bar can be divided into smaller pieces for easier handling. We recommend working with a manageable piece rather than the entire bar.
• How long will a 100g clay bar last?
  This depends on the size and condition of the vehicle and how frequently it is used. A 100g bar can provide multiple detailing sessions when used correctly and kept clean.

50g + 50g Combination TIns

• What is included in the 100g Combination Tin?
  Each Combination Tin contains two 50g clay bars, giving you 100g of clay in total. The two pieces can be different grades, allowing you to choose the appropriate level of cleaning for different areas or stages of the same vehicle.
• Why have two 50g clay bars instead of one 100g bar?
  The combination format gives you greater flexibility. You can use a finer clay for sensitive or lightly contaminated areas and a more aggressive grade where additional cleaning power is required.
• Can I use both 50g bars on the same vehicle?
  Yes. For example, you might begin with a Fine clay and move to Medium only where the contamination requires additional cleaning.

What combinations would you recommend?

Can I use one 50g piece and save the other?
Yes. Keep the unused clay sealed and protected from dirt, dust and contamination.

What happens if I drop the clay bar?
Discard any clay that has been dropped onto the ground or another contaminated surface. It can pick up abrasive particles that may scratch the paint.

Can I reuse the clay?
Yes, provided it remains clean and suitable for use. Knead/fold the clay regularly to expose a clean surface. Once the clay becomes heavily contaminated or cannot be safely cleaned by folding, replace it.

Can I use Heavy clay on delicate paint?
A more aggressive clay can increase the likelihood of marring. Use the least aggressive grade capable of removing the contamination, and always test first.

Which grade should I use?

• Super Fine: Light contamination / maintenance
  Fine: Light to moderate contamination / general detailing
  Medium: Moderate to heavy contamination
  Heavy: Severe or stubborn contamination / intensive preparation

When in doubt, start with the finer grade and increase the aggressiveness only if required.
